As you can see in the chart above, Cavapoos and Cockapoos are similar breeds since they are both a mixture of Poodle and Spaniel. However, it can sometimes be difficult to predict how either of these puppies will turn out. Though both dogs have Poodle in them, the type of Poodle used differs from breeder to breeder.

For example, some breeders will use Toy Poodles, whereas others will use Standard Poodles. As you might figure, both Cavapoos and Cockapoos can have a lot of looks. Not to mention, the crossbred nature of these dogs makes them more unpredictable. It is uncertain which parent the puppy will take after.

So, comparing Cavapoos and Cockapoos can be a bit tricky.

The Cavapoo is the cross between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Poodle. They are loved for their playful and curious nature. The beautiful dogs fit in with most homes. Whether you have young children or are a senior, this dog will love your attention and cuddles.

The Cavapoo is known for being calm and loving like the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. In this regard, the dog makes a perfect lap dog. The calmness of the Spaniel is matched by the Poodle’s intelligence. Together, this creates a beautiful, sweet, and intelligent dog.

Because of the Poodle parent, the Cavapoo is hypoallergenic. This makes the breed an option for individuals with allergies. Extra grooming will further prevent the dog from irritating your allergies.

Although there are a lot of great things about the Cavapoo, they aren’t perfect for everyone. These dogs need a lot of attention and will get separation anxiety if they are left alone for too long.

Cockapoos are one of the first designed breeds. They are a cross between a Poodle and a Cocker Spaniel. Unlike most designer dogs, the Cockapoo was bred in the 1960s. During their early years, Cockapoos were bred because they are intelligent, affectionate, and low shedding.

Much like the Spaniel, Cockapoos are loving. They adore humans and will be your best friend. Whether you have seniors or toddlers in your home, your Cockapoo will accept everyone and want to be around them at all times.

At the same time, these dogs are low shedding and hypoallergenic. This further makes this dog a good choice for families. Even if you have allergies, these dogs won’t irritate them much. Plus, they are easy to groom and take care of!

The main difficulty with Cockapoos is that they require a lot of attention and exercise. Like its Cocker Spaniel parent, the Cockapoo needs an active family that can help this dog stay healthy and entertained.

Which Is Right For Me?

The appearance, size, and grooming of the Cavapoo and Cockapoo are similar. Their biggest differences relate to their need for attention and exercise. Considering these two traits can help you decide which dog is right for you.

If you will be home a lot, the Cavapoo is best for you. This dog needs an owner who is home frequently. Cavapoos are especially great pets for seniors and families with stay-at-home parents. In contrast, Cockapoos are best for active families or families with children. Children and frequent activity will keep this dog entertained and happy.

Cavapoos and Cockapoos are both Poodle mixes, but the former is mixed with a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and the latter a Cocker Spaniel. From the Poodle parentage, both dogs are hypoallergenic and intelligent.

Despite their similarities, there are a lot of differences between these dogs. Get a Cavapoo if you’ll be home a lot, but get a Cockapoo if you can meet its extensive exercise demands.

Once it comes time to pick out your family dog, look at shelters. Although these dogs are designer breeds, many find themselves without a home. For this reason, adopt, don’t shop for your forever furry friend!
